Usually, Saint-Tropez is busy with yachts and tour

Usually, Saint-Tropez is busy with yachts and tourists, increasing the population up to 100,000 daily visitors in summer.

I was there this week - it’s lovely to visit now at this time of the year because it’s much calmer in the off season (as well there are various curfews that France is experiencing so it has a different vibe, so you have to think of curfew rules before you travel). Here’s 7 things to enjoy in the quieter periods:

1. Saint-Tropez has a random mix of people - you might see anyone from fishermen to fashion designers. Stroll around at a leisurely pace and soak up the atmosphere.
2. The famous Pampelonne Beach is not in Saint-Tropez but Ramatuelle. Even though the beach restaurants are closed it’s lovely for beach walks & picnics.
3. Watch the locals play boules at Place des Lices.
4. Retail shops are OPEN 🛍 Shop local; head to boutiques on rue Allard, rue Gambetta and rue François Sibilli, I saw some amazing price reductions on clothing, accessories & artwork.
5. Bars & restaurants are closed (except takeaway service), but you can still buy a slice of Tarte Tropézienne or stop by Barbarac for ice cream.
6. Hit the Sentier du Littoral coastal walk starting at the Tour du Portalet at La Ponche. Walk past nice beaches or venture a bit further to enjoy the sea views at Cap Taillat and plage de l’Escalet.
7. Sample local wine at regional vineyards such as Château des Marres, Château Minuty, Maison Angelvin or go a bit further to Château Léoube.

Twenty départements in France including the Alpe

Twenty départements in France including the Alpes Maritimes are under lockdown restrictions this weekend and next weekend.

For the Côte d’Azur this includes from:
- 6pm Friday 26th February to 6am Monday 1st March and
- 6pm Friday 5th March to Monday 8th March.
