The longest superyacht on display at MYS 2021 was 108-metre IJE, built by Benetti with exterior design and decor by UK-based RWD.  IJE was built for Australian billionaire James Packer and was named after his children Indigo, Jackson, and Emanuelle (IJE).  It was presented by Burgess and Benetti.

Dutch yard ICON Yachts revealed a new 70-metre conversion superyacht, Project Master at the Monaco Yacht Show.  This latest yacht conversion began life as the 66-metre Ocean Ness, built by the Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven in 2001. Despite the total transformation from offshore support vessel to luxurious explorer superyacht, the conversion will retain 95% of the ship’s original platform and superstructure.

“The 68m Project Ragner last year was a true testament to ICON’s capabilities when it comes to complex superyacht conversion projects, and the entire team is excited to build another ICON in Project Master. We look forward to sharing the journey as construction progresses over the next two years.” ICON Yachts CEO, Tony Gale

Heesen’s 55-metre Moskito took a show-stopping place at her berth on the Appontement Jules Soccal.  A 2021 launch, her exteriors were designed by Omega Architects, while the chic interiors were by British design duo Bannenberg & Rowell. The design features the latest iteration of van Oossanen’s ultra-efficient FDHF. Powered by IMO III-compliant MTU 8V 4000 M63s, it offers frugal fuel consumption of just 150 litres per hour at 11 knots, for truly economical passagemaking.

Cloud 9, the first 62Steel and new steel and aluminium flagship of the Sanlorenzo, was one of the debut yachts at this year’s show.   There are five guest cabins on main deck: two twins and two double cabins, plus a VIP cabin forward with an adjoining staff cabin and sofa bed. Naturally, the beach club was a focal point with a glass-bottomed pool overhead, it was a light-filled area equipped with a treadmill, hammam, sauna and bar to keep any guests onboard happy.

ADSB signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SNO Yachts for the construction of NAUTILUS 45, a shadow vessel.  Supported by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Abu Dhabi Maritime, the state-of-the-art explorer vessel will be built in the UAE by ADSB, while SNO Yachts will carry out the final putting in Italy.

This year, there was more discussion about how yacht owners are putting environmental concerns first, impacting change in yacht design, innovation and build.  We heard leading designers including Espen Øino and Sam Sorgiovanni at the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub talk about future developments with sustainability and design.  As well, superyacht concepts drew on the relationship with open spaces and the outdoors:  large interior open spaces in the mid deck, drop-down sides for beach clubs and living / entertaining zones with gardens and water features.

Luxury Lifestyle at Monaco Yacht Show 2021

Regarding luxury lifestyle, Monaco Yacht Show has strived to connect luxury brands to the yachting elite.  The Upper Deck Lounge presented a select group of partners including Sabrina Monte-Carlo, Dassault Aviation and Paola Lenti, while the Car Deck on Quai Antoine 1er gleamed with the latest prestige automotive models from brands including Klassen and Brabus.

The continuation of the Only Watch bi-yearly auction features one-of-a-kind watches produced by some of Switzerland’s most prestigious watch brands, with all proceeds being donated to research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy.  The premium timepieces usually showcase at Monaco Yacht Show as part of a world tour.

The 9th edition of the biennal auction of unique timepieces for the benefit of research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy will take place on Saturday 6 November 2021 in Geneva.  You can see below the Heritage BiCompax Annual Only Watch by Carl F.
