I will be on Christmas holiday leave from Friday 20th December until Monday 6th January.

Unfortunately, I won't be answering your emails or messages (even though my MacBook will probably be one metre away), because I'll be busy watching Love Actually, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Die Hard, eating and drinking Xmas goodies and cringing every time I hear THAT Mariah Carey song.

Wishing all of my clients and friends a safe and festive holiday!
Like oil and water, bad content and yachting customers don't mix.

It's important that the people who are creating content for your yachting company understand its impact.

For destination-led content, your target audience is likely to include well-travelled individuals who can spot errors a mile away, particularly if those yachting destinations are already their playgrounds.

🔹HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES I PICKED UP:

→ A UK-based brokerage company published a charter guide about Cannes but they used a stock photo of Tunisia. Same seafront palm trees, different country.

→ A yacht toys supplier published a video mentioning Cap Ferrat on the French Riviera but they used photos of the sand dunes at Dune du Pilat. It’s in the same country (France), but completely different locations and landscapes: Cap Ferret is on the west coast, and Cap Ferrat in southeast France.

→ A yacht provisioner who had a typo on the front cover of their brochure at a tasting event for superyacht clients.

This is not solely about creative briefs, brand touchpoints, tone of voice, beautiful imagery, or grammar. Whether you are an emerging brand or an established company you can create content that is well-researched, accurate, and relevant.

🔹HOW TO AVOID PITFALLS:

→ Hire experts who do this for a living. They’re watching what's happening in the industry and have an eye for research and finding opportunities for improvement.

→ Hire someone who can put their ego aside and wants to continuously learn.

→ No one is perfect and we're bound to make mistakes. Hire someone who takes accountability for their productivity and output - it’s their work so they should take final responsibility for its quality. Work with someone who has the maturity to report problems or correct errors. If they can acknowledge a concern and offer a solution that’s great.

→ Make sure they have testimonials for the yachting industry.

→ You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression and ChatGPT can’t just magic a portfolio for a skilled copywriter or content creator.

We (humans) accept ourselves with conditions - we create an image of ourselves that is not what we truly are.

↪︎ Grey hairs.
↪︎ No manicure.
↪︎ Unironed t-shirt.
↪︎ Posture needs improvement.

Being a business owner requires you to wear many hats; also, we balance family, personal goals, and other things in addition to our daily business.

In my experience freelancing with various clients and looking from the outside, a lot of in-house issues exist within teams, because of what is not said.

Either because it’s an:

↪︎ Elephant in the room

↪︎ Scared of consequences

↪︎ People don’t feel supported to challenge a topic, discussion

The real challenge? Showing up authentically. Many people lack the confidence to reveal who they truly are. The truth is that genuine people don't magically appear out of marketing vortexes; they choose to live authentically without changing into someone else, or being completely full of shit. 💩

When you’re genuine in business it lets your establish connections with others who respect and value honesty and sincerity.

Being authentic means:

👉 Identifying the qualities you want your audience to see in you. Not holding back with your own personality, sense of humour, style and values because you can not fail at being yourself.

👉 Realising that great communication isn’t always about perfection. Put up the video you believe will never be viewed because it might be the one that sets you apart!

👉 Not always being so pragmatic and self-deprecating that you pass up wonderful opportunities; instead, face obstacles head-on since we learn from them.

👉 Even if you're wearing several hats today, remember that your superpower is your ability to be genuine, say no when necessary, speak your opinion and make choices with heart and mind.

⏰ I thought of this post at 11pm last night as I was being super reflective. Thanks for reading my Ted talk today. 😂 Keep pushing the envelope.
