14 Warning Signs For Red Flag Clients In The Superyacht Industry

Oct 16, 2024 | Marketing Advice, News

We often focus on what makes a great client, however, it’s just as important to learn how to spot problematic clients to avoid difficult situations and potential damage to your business.
In the past few years, I’ve worked with a lot of clients, and I’ve had almost no problems.
Changing the course of your company may be both rewarding and frustrating at the same time.
‘Warning signs’ are typically visible in retrospect. A few instances are: Committee approval, which causes a project to stall and never be completed; the “I know someone” client who knows a friend, cousin, or neighbour who can complete the work more affordably; etc.
There are times when clients are not a good fit for you or vice versa. To safeguard both your business and your peace of mind, it’s critical to learn when to say no and to be clear about who you want to deal with.

ADVICE FOR ENHANCED COMMUNICATION:

↪️ If you provide a service, provide parameters with rates for scope creep and clearly defined service deliverables. Use change order agreements to steer clear of an endless cycle of changes.

↪️ If you are dealing with a challenging client, make an effort to re-establish your limits and enforce them strictly. Your mental and physical health may suffer as a result of a challenging client, particularly if their behaviour begins to negatively affect your business and life.
↪️ Hear what they have to say. Give a clear explanation and offer a solution.
↪️ Should they be unable to adjust to the boundaries you establish for your company,  it might be time to part ways and say goodbye to them.
These examples are by no means exhaustive and I welcome hearing feedback and solutions for dealing with red flag clients.
